OAPT Awards
The Ohio Association for Pupil Transportation believes in recognizing outstanding achievement at all levels of the pupil transportation program. An award for supervisor of the year has been given since 1990.
In 2013, the OAPT Board created additional awards for Office Support Personnel, On-Bus Instructors, School Bus Drivers, School Bus Attendants, and School Bus Mechanics of the year. Each of these are presented during the banquet at our annual conference.
WILLIAM RICE Award of Excellence
The William Rice Award of Excellence is given in memory of OAPT Past President William Rice to the Pupil Transportation Supervisor of the Year, as judged by the OAPT Officers.
It is the intent of this award to recognize supervisors who exhibit outstanding leadership and professional conduct in the school transportation field, both in the district they represent as well as in the State of Ohio.
The award also recognizes supervisors who have contributed to the advancement of pupil transportation supervision as a profession.

CAROL BRANDEL Award for Distinguished Service
The Carol Brandel Award for Distinguished Service in Pupil Transportation is given in honor of Carol Brandel, long-time Administrative Assistant for the Ohio Department of Education Pupil Transportation Office, as judged by the OAPT Officers.
It is the intent of this award to recognize Pupil Transportation Support Staff who exhibit outstanding leadership and professional conduct in the school transportation field, both in the district they represent as well as in the State of Ohio.
This award also recognizes school transportation professionals who have contributed to the advancement of school transportation as a profession.

FRED ANNESS On-Bus Instructor of the Year
The Fred Anness On-Bus Instructor of the Year is given in honor of long-time Preservice Instructor Fred Anness to the On-Bus Instructor of the year as judged by the OAPT Officers.
It is the intent of this award to recognize on-bus instructors who exhibit outstanding leadership and professional conduct in the school transportation field, both in the district they represent as well as in the State of Ohio.
The award also recognizes on-bus instructors who have contributed to the advancement of pupil transportation as a profession.

GEORGE SONTAG, JR. School Bus Driver of the Year
The George Sontag Jr. School Bus Driver of the Year is given in honor of OAPT Charter Member George Sontag Jr., to the school bus driver of the year as judged by the OAPT Officers.
It is the intent of this award to recognize bus drivers who exhibit outstanding leadership and professional conduct in the school transportation field, both in the district they represent as well as in the State of Ohio.
The award also recognizes bus drivers who have contributed to the advancement of pupil transportation as a profession.

RITA RODGERS School Bus Attendant of the Year
The Rita Rodgers School Bus Attendant of the Year is given in honor of Rita Rodgers, former school bus attendant at South-Western City SD, as judged by the OAPT Officers.
It is the intent of this award to recognize school bus attendants who exhibit outstanding leadership and professional conduct in the school transportation field, both in the district they represent as well as in the State of Ohio.
The award also recognizes school bus attendants who have contributed to the advancement of pupil transportation as a profession.

DAVID DRUM School Bus Mechanic of the Year
The David Drum School Bus Mechanic of the Year is given in memory of David E. Drum, a school bus mechanic and twenty-eight year employee of Teays Valley Schools, to the school bus mechanic of the year, as judged by the OAPT Officers.
It is the intent of this award to recognize mechanics who demonstrate outstanding cost-savings measures, cooperation and working relationships with school bus drivers and fellow employees, who set high shop standards, and who have implemented a preventative maintenance program.
The award also recognizes mechanics who have contributed to the advancement of pupil transportation as a profession.
